COMMUNICATION, NEW MEDIA + JOURNALISM ENGLISH NEWSLETTER III / SPRING 2018
The end of the Spring Semester came last May 10th, celebrated with a farewell ship cruise along the Guadalquivir River where our CIEE students enjoyed a wonderful landscape accompanied by some friends and other local staff members.
In this last part of the semester it´s worthy to highlight that the students of the Digital Video Reporting in Context course carried out a performative documentary practice at Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC), where there was an exhibition by the Belgian performance artist Jan Fabre and the Iraqi artist Ala Younis.
The Contemporary Art Museum was chosen for three reasons. Firstly, as a proposal for students to contrast their preconceived ideas about the type of art that can be found in Seville and thus provide a sample of the heterogeneity that the city presents in this sense. Second, because the chosen space is, in its conception, an example of contemporary art by eclectically combining the specific aesthetics of an ancient monastery (whose Arabic origins go back to the 12th century) with that of modern works of art. Finally, this museum was chosen, and specifically, this exhibition, because none of the students knew the artists who exhibited their works in it, which provided an ideal context for the practice of performative documentary: faced with ambiguous contents, rich in meanings and possibly disconcerting, the reflection of the students on the exposed works could become a stimulating challenge for them.
During the Summer we continue working with the applications of our future students for next Fall Semester 2018.
We are very grateful to CNMJE students for their participation in our program. It has been a real pleasure to work and learn with them.
Our best wishes for all their future challenges,
CIEE CNMJE Program
