Dear friends!

The semester came to its end for the Advanced Liberal Arts program. From their predeparture, through their orientation onsite, including the Spanish language immersion activity, until the start of the regular course all our students overcame their challenging selection and confronted a challenging coursework full of tutorials, language workshops and activities that promoted their cultural integration, among them the local visits or the overnight to Lisbon.

IN ACTIVITIES

Different workshops, activities and visits took place in this last stage of the program: “cooking tapas”, Cathedral, Giralda, Alcázar, Plaza de España and Parque de Maria Luisa visits, “wine tasting”, concerts and music alive, kayak along the river, picnic with Spaniards or city tours included some of them.

The semester was closed with a farewell cruise along the river of Seville, the Guadalquivir river. ALA students enjoyed of wonderful views while they had the opportunity to say goodbye to their CIEE friends who belonged to different programs and to some CIEE staff.

IN ACADEMICS

Most of our ALA program students took their final exams and did their final presentations and papers to close their academic chapter. Students coursed classes of all kind of areas: from philology, to communication, going through Geography, History, philosophy, sciences, education, bussines, turism or rights.

Many of our ALA program students applied and got a tutor of content and just a few required some support for their Spanish.

IN VOLUNTEERING

As each semester, several opportunities have been offered to get students involved in the local community, such as volunteering and teaching and 5 of our ALA students took advantage of this experience.

We wish you all a great summer time!

We’ll be back with more news in late September, at the start of the Fall 2018 semester.

Warm regards from Seville!

Seville IBC Program Closure

The Spring18 semester ended a few weeks ago on May 25th…below are a few of the highlights as we headed into semester´s end

Cultural Immersion to Morocco

During the overnight to Northern Morocco students were not just visitors to the country but rather participated in the daily lives of locals via informal interactions with peers, by living with a Moroccan family and by partaking in aspects of the local culture. As result of the immersion experience, students left with heightened awareness of their U.S. American privilege and status, as well as more accurate information of Islam, the political and educational structures in Morocco, day-to-day living, etc.

Spanish Culture Up Close

Several students participated in volunteer teaching this semester, either with CIEE or in collaboration with the University Pablo de Olavide; students volunteered 1-2 hours per week at a local elementary or high school.
